3-Step Guide for Turnips
Step 1: Unlock Nook’s Cranny
The NPC or character that sells turnips won’t show up until you unlock and finish your Nook’s Cranny.
To start building it, pay off your first loan of 5,000 miles to Tom Nook. After that, talk to him again to upgrade your humble tent to a proper house.
You’ll get another bill for that, but you don’t have to pay it right now to get turnips.
The next time you’ll see Tom Nook, he should be talking to Timmy about opening a store. Agree to help the little guy to start the Nook’s Cranny quest.
Step 2: Finish Your Nook’s Cranny
To start the construction of Nook’s Cranny, you need to gather a lot of materials: 30 Iron Nuggets, 30 Wood, 30 Hardwood, and 30 Softwood.
You can’t start building yet until you give all of these to Timmy and Tommy.
If you chopped all the trees and hit all the rocks on your island but still need more materials, redeem Nook Mile Tickets and go to Mystery Islands.
You’ll find more rocks and trees there for more materials. Don’t forget to bring more axes and shovels!
TIP: Do the Rock Trick! When hitting rocks, make sure you dig two holes behind and beside you to stop you from stepping back. This way, you can repeatedly hit a rock eight times without any gaps in between, and you’ll get a maximum of eight materials per rock. Check this image below to help you know where to dig the holes.
Once you’ve gathered all of the needed materials, talk to Timmy and Tommy again to set up their store.
Place the Shop Construction Kit where you want the store to be, and then wait until the next day for it to be finished.
IMPORTANT NOTE: A new day in the game starts when the clock hits 5:00 AM.
Step 3: Wait for Daisy Mae on Sundays
“When will the turnip lady show up?” You ask. Well, after waiting for the shop to open you have to wait some more.
The character that will sell turnips is a cute orange boar named Daisy Mae. She will first show up on your island on the first Sunday after your Nook’s Cranny is completed.
After that, she will show up every Sunday morning, from 5:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.
She will sell turnips in bundles of 10 and priced between 90 to 110 bells.
One week, she might be selling at 92 bells, and next Sunday, the turnips can be priced at 110.
The prices of her turnips don’t really matter that much, profit-wise, as long as you have the bells for it and sell it at a higher price later. You can buy turnips at any of these prices.
Tips for Turnips
Congratulations on getting turnips! …But now what?
Find a Place To Store Turnips
Now that you have a lot of turnips find a good place to put them. You can’t put them in your storage, and having them all the time in your pockets can be a hassle.
It’s okay to place them on the ground or put them in a room, but if you buy a lot of turnips, you will need a proper space for them.
You can even get creative and make a “farm” for it.
Don’t Let It Spoil
Turnips can last from the Sunday you bought them until the Saturday of that week. After that, your turnips will spoil, and you won’t be able to sell them.
Sell Turnips at Your Nook’s Cranny
Timmy and Tommy can buy turnips from you or other players visiting your island. You can sell to them any time of the week except Sundays.
To profit from your turnips, sell it at a higher price than you paid for.
Timmy and Tommy will offer two prices to you: one in the morning and another one in the afternoon or night. If you have the time, make sure you check these prices.
The highest turnip price they can offer can go as high as 900 bells, while the lowest price is a measly 15 bells.
If you get lucky, you can easily get millions of bells just by selling turnips.
Sell Turnips at Another Player’s Island
Sometimes, your own Nook’s Cranny is just not giving you good turnip prices.
When this happens, it helps to have friends with good turnip prices who can open their airports to let you in and sell at their Nook’s Cranny.
There are fan-made websites and online communities created to accommodate the turnip market.
Eat and Cook Turnips
You can eat turnips like fruits and other food items in the game, and it will give you a strength buff for shoveling trees and breaking rocks.
Check the counter on the top left of your screen to see your buff.
You can also cook turnips now! The more you buy turnips from Daisy Mae, the more chances you’ll get a recipe from her.
Turnips are mighty nutritious for you and your wallet. Now that you know how to get turnips plan carefully and watch out for the risks involved.
Soon, these turnips will turn up a profit for you!
