More than three decades after the original aired, the classic anime Samurai Troopers (known as Ronin Warriors in the West) is making a major comeback.

This marks the franchise’s first television continuation since the early ’90s OVA installments, and fans of the armored warriors have reason to celebrate.

What We Know So Far

The upcoming anime is being produced by Sunrise, the studio behind the original series. Acclaimed director Yoichi Fujita (Gintama, Osomatsu-san) will helm the project, bringing his trademark blend of action and personality.

Series composition and scripts will be handled by Shōgo Mutō, best known for Kamen Rider Build. The character design team includes Yuhei Murota (Love Live!), with villain designs by Tsukasa Kotobuki.

Armor and gear designs are being updated by Takuya Suzuki and returning original designer Hideo Okamoto. Music for the series will be composed by Shuji Katayama.

New Heroes, Familiar Legacy

Ronin Warriors

The story takes place in modern-day Shinjuku and follows a new protagonist, 14-year-old Gai, who inherits the legendary Armor of Inferno. Voiced by Hiiro Ishibashi, Gai steps into a legacy left behind by the original samurai warriors.

As darkness rises once more and Arago’s Demon Clan returns, a new generation of Troopers must rise to defend the world.

The sequel promises to continue the legacy of honor, friendship, and power that defined the original series while introducing a fresh cast and updated visuals for both longtime fans and newcomers.

Why This Sequel Matters

This is more than a nostalgic revival. With a strong creative team, updated designs, and a clear love for the source material, Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers aims to reintroduce a cult classic to a new era.

The original anime’s full run is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, offering easy access for fans who want to revisit the story before the sequel airs.
