Anime with Overpowered Main Character
Yuuya (I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World, Too)
After being brutally bullied his whole life, Yuuya is given a chance to turn his life around when a mysterious door opens up in front of him.
The door leads to a world where magic and monsters are real. The door also leads to a room with strong magical artifacts and other powerful things.
Not only are these items powerful for this new world he’s in, but he can also take anything he wants back to his own world, making Yuuya quite overpowered for both worlds!
Falma/Kanji (Parallel World Pharmacy)
Due to ineffective treatment, Kanji’s sister died from her serious medical condition.
It led to him dedicating the rest of his life to medical research, both to honor her and to help others who are in a similar situation.
Unfortunately, this has led to him overworking, and he himself passes away.
But Kanji’s tale doesn’t end there. As luck would have it, he ends up being reincarnated in a different world as the son of a family of medical practitioners. He also gets powers from a deity!
The medical practices of this new world are similar to his former world, only very outdated and primitive. With his vast knowledge of medical science, plus his powers, Kanji reigns supreme as a doctor in this new world.
Wang Ling (Daily Life of the Immortal King)
Even at the age of six, Wang Ling has always been a powerful wizard.
He defeated a strong demon at a young age, continued to exhibit his mastery of magic, and developed a power that could shatter worlds.
He is given an amulet to put a lid on his powers. And although the amulet’s power is waning as he grows older, it’s not his biggest challenge yet.
His current problem? Surviving high school!
How will this overpowered teen navigate his new roller coaster school life? That’s for you to find out!
Azusa (I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level)
After spending her years as an overworked corporate slave, Azusa Aizawa dies from work stress and exhaustion. Thankfully, a goddess gives her a second chance.
Azusa gets revived in a new world full of magic and monsters and is given immortality. Instead of starting an adventure, she wishes for a tranquil life in a cozy house with a garden.
There, she spends her days tending to her small farm and killing slimes, which are beginner-level enemies. This goes on for hundreds of years.
Eventually, the experience from killing slimes accumulated, and Azusa reached level 99, making her the strongest person in the world!
Yurie (Kamichu)
What if you wake up one morning to find that you’re now a goddess?
This is what happened with Yurie Hitotsubashi. Although it seemed overwhelming at first, her good friend Matsuri was quick to become her manager.
With the help of her friend, Yurie now has to juggle her school life, as well as her shrine goddess tasks, like listening to prayers, removing curses, and meeting with other gods.
When it comes to being overpowered in an anime, being a literal god sure makes you one!
Misato/Adele (Didn’t I Say To Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?)
Misato Kurihara has always been an exceptional student in her school. Sadly, her impressive intelligence and skills made her feel like a pariah instead.
She ended up having a hard time making friends. Oh, and she also dies unexpectedly. Sounds terrible, right?
Well, a divine being grants her another chance at life. Misato grabs this opportunity to wish for an ordinary life, one where she has average abilities fitting for this new world.
This doesn’t go as planned, and Misato ends up being reincarnated as Adele, a noble’s daughter with very powerful magic!
Now she has to befriend others while hiding her overpowered abilities.
Tatsuya (The Irregular at Magic High School)
In the far future, magic has become a technical skill that can be studied. Students are assessed and segregated based on their entrance exam scores.
Blooms are those with high scores, and Weeds are the ones who did not do that well in the exam.
Although labeled as a Weed, Tatsuya seems to be anything but that! He has impressive technical knowledge of magic, great physical fighting abilities, and even unique magic spells up his sleeves.
So why was he categorized as a Weed? It’s quite an enigma! He became known as an “irregular” in his magic school instead.
Ainz Ooal Gown/Momonga (Overlord)
Momonga spent most of his waking hours playing a virtual reality game called Yggdrasil. Even after his in-game friends stopped playing, he stayed and persevered on.
So when said game announced that it was closing down, Momonga was understandably heartbroken and decided to stay in the last few hours of the game.
But even after the servers were shut down, Momonga was still in the game. It seems like he got teleported into Yggdrasil, making the game his new reality!
Good thing Momongo grinded and no-life the game beforehand. He’s now the strongest person in Yggdrasil!
Raizel (Noblesse)
After being in slumber for more than 800 years, Cadis Etrama di Raizel wakes up in the modern world, only to find himself being chased by a mysterious organization that wants his blood.
He tries to hide as a student, but that only leads to the organization, the Union, kidnapping and harming his classmates.
Good thing Rai can save them with his OP powers. He can do Aura Manipulation, fight with his soul weapon, do Telekinesis and Telepathy, and has Blood Affinity.
He might be overpowered, but it doesn’t really make the show boring since it’s always a delight to see him save his friends.
Kumoko (So I’m a Spider, So What?)
A peaceful day at school soon turned into tragedy, as a sudden catastrophe decimated everyone. Luckily, a handful of them were given a second chance at life in a new world.
In this new reality, some of the students reincarnated as knights, nobles, and royalty. However, one girl ended up as a…spider!
But despite life handing her a web-filled lemon, she makes the best out of her situation. She trains, fights, and claws her way up the food chain.
In the midst of isekai overpowered main characters, Kumoko is one of the rare ones that you see work so hard to reach her overpowered status.
Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star)
If his muscles didn’t give you the hint already, Kenshiro is quite the overpowered main character!
After his fiancee gets abducted by his rival, Kenshiro travels the vast post-apocalyptic world to get her back.
Due to the state of the world, the place is crawling with violent ravagers, thieves, and his rival’s henchmen.
But don’t worry, Kenshiro comes out on top due to his inherited martial arts – the deadly Hokuto Shinken. Kenshiro is the 64th successor of this technique, and he continues to evolve and improve on it.
Hina (Hinamatsuri)
The life of a vase-loving Yakuza gets a surprising turn when a random capsule materializes and falls on his head.
Out pops Hina from the capsule. She’s a blue-haired mystery, and she doesn’t really reveal anything about herself – except that she has immense powers that need to be used every now and then, or else she’ll explode!
Luckily, the Yakuza guy, who’s now her begrudging caretaker, found a solution to her overpowered dilemma. She can use her powers by helping him fight and defeat enemies from rival gangs.
A win-win solution, plus no explosion!
Saiki (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.)
Kusuo Saiki was blessed with strong psychic powers. He can use telepathy, has x-ray vision, and even possesses supernatural abilities.
In this world, he’s the strongest psychic ever.
Unfortunately for him, having these powers is not a blessing. He thinks it’s a curse and only attracts problems for him in the form of hijinks with his quirky classmates and friends.
Kiyotaka (Classroom of the Elite)
In Classroom of the Elite, students in Class D have a tough time. Unless you’re in the top classes, like in Class A, you won’t be treated well. The good news is you can improve your standing and move classes.
This has made Class D students become super driven and competitive. But Kiyotaka, a Class D student himself, seems to be too chill about it.
On the surface, he’s inconspicuous and average, with grades that are totally mediocre. However, deep down, he hides tremendous skill, both in intelligence and reading people.
Kaede/Maple (Bofuri)
Kaede isn’t much of a gamer, but due to the insistence of her friend, she tries out a new virtual reality MMO.
Her fear of getting hurt in the game as a novice made her max out her Defense!
So now, even though she can’t move fast or hit well, she has insanely high defensive stats. This eventually made her almost unkillable and highly OP in the game!
Kirito (Sword Art Online)
Speaking of overpowered main characters in a virtual reality MMO, we simply can’t skip Kirito.
After being trapped in a VRMMO, Kirito teams up with others to beat level after level to escape their VR prison. He levels up, finds rare upgrades and weapons, and – spoiler alert – eventually defeats the final boss of the game.
Some fans have voiced their dislike regarding Kirito’s character. However, when you think about it, Kirito spent a lot of time beta testing, grinding, and getting good at the game. No wonder he became too OP!
Tokuchi (One Outs)
Tokuchi has made a name for himself in baseball by being a great pitcher. He is even known for winning a lot of “one outs” rounds.
But even though he’s a baseball genius, there’s one thing he can’t resist: gambling.
To negotiate his salary, he makes a bet with his new team’s owner, such as pitching out, costing millions in his contract.
The show then demonstrates why Tokuchi is a beast when it comes to baseball and gambling.
Yumeko (Kakegurui)
`
Gambling, you say? Well, we can’t skip Yumeko from Kakegurui while we’re on the topic!
Yumeko started out as a mysterious yet prim-and-proper transfer student in Hyakkaou Private Academy. While the school seems normal during the day, it turns into a gambling den at night.
Yumeko quickly earned her reputation as a gambling genius. Her fast calculating skills and quick reading on people has turned the tides countless times in the show.
Ichigo (Bleach)
A Shinigami, a Quincy, and a Hollow too? Ichigo got quite a stack of powers over the years!
Ichigo started out as a Substitute Shinigami when he helped out Rukia. He later became one of the strongest Shinigami in Soul Society due to his strong Reiatsu and Bankai.
He even semi-transformed into a Hollow but got a grip on said form instead of going berserk.
Eventually, it was revealed that his dad was a Shinigami Captain, making him a proper one. In addition, his mom was a Quincy, making him a Quincy too.
Whew, that’s a lot of powers.
Lucy (Elfen Lied)
As a Diclonius, a special human with horns and violent powers, Lucy is quite overpowered.
While escaping from a lab where she was experimented on, she easily wreaked havoc on the guards and scientists that were keeping her. Blood and guts were everywhere!
So what’s stopping her from going on a rampage? A head injury and the kindness of two college students.
Alucard (Hellsing)
When it comes to super strong and overpowered vampires, Alucard is king.
But unlike other overpowered main characters, Alucard isn’t bland or flawless. He’s a stylish anti-hero and won’t back down from his loyalty and ambiguous morals.
Powers-wise, not only does he have great combat abilities and strength, his regeneration makes it seem like he’s immortal. He can also unleash an army of undead as familiars. Spooky!
Tachibana (Life With an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated Into a Total Fantasy Knockout)
While lamenting over his bad dating life one night, Tachibana drunkenly and jokingly wishes to become a charming, beautiful lady.
It turns out that a goddess was listening to his plight and decided to grant his wish. Tachibana and his close friend end up being transported to a fantasy world where he is now a very pretty gal!
Like his wish, his charm is now off the charts! Everyone is enamored of her, even his best friend.
Unlike other entries here, Tachibana’s overpowered quality isn’t about physical fighting, but it’s through his looks and charm.
The show also addresses the power and importance of compliments. It’s nice to shower your friends with praise every now and then!
Rimuru (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)
Rimuru was your typical office worker – work all day, go home, then work again the next day. His days passed by in such monotony.
That all abruptly ends when he gets stabbed on the streets!
But just before succumbing to his injuries, Rimuru hears a chanting. He then wakes up in a magical realm – as a slime! Although his new form is less than stellar, he finds out that he possesses incredible abilities.
Rimuru can consume almost anything and perform mimicry. Later on, he can even do space and time manipulation, put up sturdy barriers, create and manipulate skills, and a whole lot more.
He might just be a slime, but he’s one strong and pliable slime!
Sakamoto (Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto)
To describe Sakamoto as cool is an understatement.
Not only is his coolness off the charts, he’s handsome, intelligent, charming, sophisticated, athletic, and just gosh dang suave.
Teachers are easily charmed by him, girls fall for him, and boys find him so captivating that a lot of them are jealous.
Some have tried to foil his perfection to no avail. Even the world can’t make him uncool, as Sakamoto always comes out on top.
For a hilarious anime with an overpowered main character in the cool department, you can’t go wrong with this one.
Koro-Sensei (Assassination Classroom)
Some teachers are difficult to deal with, but when your professor is an overpowered tentacle alien monster planning to decimate the whole world, it gets even crazier.
The lowest class of Kunugigaoka Middle School gets assigned a new teacher – but it’s someone they need to assassinate!
This new mentor, Koro-sensei, is actually an alien who plans on destroying the planet in a year.
Koro-sensei welcomes any methods the students can pull to defeat him. He’s fast, indestructible but also a weirdly good teacher.
Founding Titan (Attack on Titan)
Attack on Titan is a show with powerful and gigantic humanoid beings called Titans. There are special Titans that have unique powers, but the strongest and most special of them all is the Founding Titan.
Not only can it erase and manipulate memories and communicate through telepathy, but it can also transform any subject of Ymir into a Titan, control them, and even change any part of their anatomy.
Because of these overpowered abilities, Zeke and Eren really wanted to get the Founding Titan’s powers for themselves to further their own plans. And – spoiler alert – Eren gets it.
Goku (Dragon Ball Series)
With his planet-shattering powers, gravity-defying abilities, and a Super Saiyan transformation that gives him godlike ki, Goku can’t be beat when it’s about overpowered anime characters.
He has even died a few times, but he always comes back to beat the bad guys. In the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and the series Dragon Ball Super, Goku even transforms into Super Saiyan God.
But there’s anyone deserving to get this level of OP, it’s Goku. He has a pure heart and always gives his everything just to protect Earth and the entire universe. Good guy, Goku!
Haruhi (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Godlike level of overpowered ness, you say? Why, that’s Haruhi Suzumiya!
In The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, numerous characters gather to observe Haruhi. There’s an alien, a time traveler, and even an esper.
They all say that the fate of the universe rests on Haruhi’s shoulders, and she doesn’t even know it!
For some reason, Haruhi can bend and manipulate reality. She can change it, wipe it, or create it according to her wishes. But since she’s unaware, her subconscious desires and changing moods channel her powers instead.
They don’t know what will happen if Haruhi becomes aware of her abilities, so they give the task of keeping her happy to Kyon. No pressure, Kyon!
Mob (Mob Psycho 100)
Here’s another overpowered main character who doesn’t know the full extent of his abilities. Shigeo Kageyama, a.k.a Mob, is a powerful psychic who has kept his powers on the down low.
Mob has always been aware of his psychic abilities, even as a young kid. He knows it can be a danger to others, so he keeps it bottled up deep inside him and only shows a bit of it to impress his crush or help out Reigen with exorcisms.
What he doesn’t know is that his powers are bubbling deep inside, and if he unlocks his emotions, he may very well explode.
Saitama (One-Punch Man)
And our pick for the very best overpowered main character in anime? Why, it’s none other than this caped baldy – Saitama!
Saitama started out as a directionless guy who became apathetic in life. But something deep inside him still wanted to do heroic deeds.
After saving a kid from a monster, Saitama decided to become a full-on hero. He trained with 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and 10 km of running. All his hair fell off due to how harsh his training was!
Eventually, he became the strongest being in the story’s universe. While this is great and all, this has made him undergo an existential crisis due to not feeling any thrill from combat.
Still, his heroic heart is still in the right place, and he doesn’t even mind not getting credit for his deeds. Inspiring!
