The Best Dragon Miniatures
D&D Icons of the Realms: Adult Blue Dragon Premium Figure
Blue dragons are notoriously nasty foes, and this mini makes that very clear. The mini comes posed in a threatening manner with large wings stretched upward as it is ready to strike. The amazingly detailed figure comes painted with premium paints and measures 21x15x10 inches.
The size is to scale to 5e battle maps and makes a perfect addition to a DM’s collection. The encounter will be one the players remember for a long time – if they survive, of course.
Wizkids Dungeons & Dragons – D&D – Icons of the Realms: Tyranny of Dragons Booster Pack
The Tyranny of Dragons module is a terrific adventure for 5e players, both new and old. This Wizkids set features an assortment of randomly selected miniatures that fit within that module and is a great place to start if you are working through the Tyranny of Dragons campaign.
The booster brick comes with four figures per booster pack for a total of 32 miniatures. These range in rarity and include classic monsters like Kobolds, Bugbears, and Mind Flayers. All of the figures come painted and ready to use.
Wizkids D&D Icons of the Realms Rime of the Frostmaiden: Arveiaturace Premium Set
Continuing themed adventures, Rime of the Frostmaiden is an incredibly popular adventure. Arveiaturace is just the piece a DM needs to cap it off. This massive, terrifying white dragon is a brute that will have the party both amazed and cowering to behold.
The exquisite figure comes fully painted and ready to use. It measures 10x19x16 inches. One of the largest dragon models available, Arveiaturace, features a detachable rider and harness.
Wizkids Pathfinder Battles: City of Lost Omens Premium Set: Adult Red& Black Dragons
Another set from Wizkids, this time featuring red and black dragons in a pair from Pathfinder. The hulking figures dwarf standard-sized miniatures and are perfect for groups who love to encounter massive, deadly foes on their adventures.
The dragons are designed for use with the City of Lost Omens Pathfinder module but are equally suitable for any adventure that requires terrifying monsters. Both dragon miniatures come painted. The dragons are classified as adult that stand close to the height of the gargantuan unpainted red dragon in the Pathfinder set.
Gale Force Nine Dungeons & Dragons Dragon Heist: AURINAX (Gold Dragon) Collector’s Series Miniature
Aurinax and his handler Barok Clanghammer are the first miniature set that features a metallic dragon and the firstfrom the Gale Force 9 brand. The dragon figure measures 8.25x12x3. It is one of the smaller figures on the list, but what it lacks in size is made up for in detail, craftsmanship, and paint.
The lore surrounding the pair ties them to Waterdeep, a legendary location known through the history of 5e. This pair would be a welcome addition to any campaign.
D&D Icons of the Realms: Bahamut Premium Fantasy Miniature Figure
Wizkids produces a massive piece that stands 17.91×10.43×9.06 inches. The figure is none other than the legendary dragon god Bahamut. Bahamut is the god that presides over the “good” aligned metallic dragons and is deep in the 5e lore.
This figure comes fully painted with premium paints and is ready to use. Players will tell the tale of the time they met this massive dragon god because seeing it in person on the table is something not easily forgotten. None of the details are forgotten with this amazing piece.
Wizkids D&D Icons of the Realms: Sapphire Dragon Premium Figure
The lore behind gem dragons is not as deep or as rich as that of metallic or chromatic dragons, but they can add an interesting dynamic to any game. The Sapphire dragon from Wizkids is sure to grab the party’s attention with its translucent coloring and threatening disposition.
The size of the figure is on the smaller side for dragons at 8x8x2 inches, but it is visually stunning. This highly detailed figure comes painted and ready to use.
Dungeons & Dragons – “Classic” Red Dragon
Nothing strikes fear into the hearts of adventurers like staring down a massive red dragon. They are notoriously savage and cruel with a greed that is unparalleled. This Gale Force 9 Dungeons and Dragons Red Dragon kit is impressive. It measures 12×8.5×3 inches.
This figure comes unassembled and unpainted but is well worth the extra time to make use of this awesome piece. The figure is made of resin and is sure to be an epic surprise when it hits the table.
Dark Heaven: Bones T’Raukzul Heroic Scale Dragon Boxed Set (77585)
This is the first figure on the list from the Reaper brand. The massive dragon figure stands over 11” tall and has a wingspan of 15”. It is unpainted and may require some assembly. T’Raukzul is impressive and is described as heroic scale – perfect for use with any number of games.
This model would be a great addition to any campaign in need of a serious monster encounter at high levels. Something to note is the figure is made of flexible plastic. The manufacturer says deformations can be fixed using hot and cold water.
Dungeons & Dragons D&D Icons of the Realms: Mythic Odysseys of Theros – Polukranos Premium Figure
Polukranos, the World Eater, is a terrifying dragon to encounter. The lore behind it sparks fear in the hearts of would-be heroes. This is another great piece from Wizkids that should be added to any DM’s collection.
It is only measuring 9×8.25×5 on the smaller end for these types of figures, but it has amazing detail. In addition, the figure comes painted and ready to use. A touch outside of the normal chromatic dragon, this beast is a great way to shake things up for an experienced party and would fit well into any game or system.
Final Thoughts
Dragons are the classic foil for an epic adventure. Sitting on mounds of gold, gems, and magical items, they protect their horde with everything they have. Only the bravest of heroes even dare to challenge them. This is why all DM’s/GM’s should have at least one terrifying dragon figure at the ready.
There are several to choose from, and the lore surrounding them only continues to expand with the rising popularity of TTRPGs.
