How Old Is Captain America From the Avengers?

How Old Is Captain America From the Avengers?

If Iron Man is to blame for the expansive MCU we have today; Captain America is responsible for the success of the comics that would yield Iron Man.

Never forget that the Marvel Cinematic Universe rests on the back of Captain America and his fellow Avengers in their original comic book worlds.

The time travel and superpowers in the films are believable little babies compared to the bonkers reality the heroes face in comic books.

Chris Evans plays the role of Captain America perfectly. Say what you will about Marvel movies; they have impeccable casting and serve their purpose, as well as Steve Rogers serves the United States.

Cap’ leads a thrilling, rough life of noble sacrifice and values. Keep reading to learn a bit of the information behind the man.

Be warned; there are some mild spoilers of the movies and spin-off show. Very mild.

Captain America’s Age and Origin

Captain America: The First Avenger is the MCU movie that takes place the furthest in the past.

Steve receives the super soldier serum, has his fraught relationship with Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier, Check out our article on Bucky!), and lives a fleeting moment of life with Peggy Carter before an inopportune freezing.

How Old Is Captain America?

Steve Rogers had his aging process halted by the super soldier serum, so he looks very good for his age. We are lucky that the MCU is clear about his birthday.

(Though the cinematic timeline ending with Avengers Endgame is different than the one in the comics.)

When Steve was frozen, he was a young man. Many (most) soldiers of that time period were in their teens and 20s.

The years he spent dormant count and were numerous. Captain America is 105 years old in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Since Avengers Endgame takes place in 2023 and Cap was born in 1918, it is pretty simple math to work through.

Does Captain America Become a Girl?

Marvel released a series called What If… that explored HYPOTHETICAL situations that would arise if they changed some details about their core characters.

One such episode saw Peggy Carter replace Steve Rogers as Captain America. Captain America does not become a girl. This was a non-canon one-off. Anthony Mackie will play Captain America going forward in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

Marvel’s What If… is a very good watch if you’re a casual OR hardcore fan of the Avengers and other Marvel Comics characters.

There are episodes featuring Ultron, Tony Stark, Nick Fury, and more familiar favs in wildly fan-fiction-like situations. “What If… The Watcher Broke His Oath?” is incredible.
