Squidward is, without a doubt, the 2nd most famous employee of the Krusty Krab. He is the sullen cashier and occasional fry cook from creator Stephen Hillenburg’s beloved TV show.
What this cephalopod lacks in charisma or enthusiasm, he more than makes up for in clarinet ability and cultured-ness. Plus, if you ask him, he’ll tell you he’s the premier artist of the city of Bikini Bottom.
Squidward (voiced by Rodger Bumpass) lives in an Easter Island head next to the iconic pineapple under the sea.
With a dangerous Krabby patty love and massive Spongebob and Patrick hate, he somehow ends up one of the more relatable characters on the show. Many people don’t know this, but he used to babysit Mr. Krabs’ daughter, Pearl.
Several fan sites throw around some birth years, but in reality, there is no official confirmation for Squidward’s age; but between Spongebob’s age and some clues from the series, we can make a pretty good guess.

How Old Is Squidward?
In our article on the Viacom International star, Spongebob (played by Tom Kenny) himself, we pegged the yellow dude’s age around 36.
With clues from the show, it’s safe to assume Squidward is older. In some flashback scenes, a young version of him has been seen with hair and working with a different Krusty Krab fry cook.
Unless Squidward lost all of his hair in a couple of years right before Spongebob was hired, he’s probably a decade older.
Funny enough, the fan-estimated birth year of 1977 makes sense; Squidward is 45 years old. This tracks with his attitude, hobbies, and general vibe.
When Is Squidward’s Birthday?
We don’t have an official year, but we do have a day and month from the Spongebob Annual released in 2014.
Squidward’s birthday is October 9th, making him a Libra; Libras are known for their multiple arms and grey complexion.
Is Squidward a Squid?
This isn’t as silly of a question as it sounds; he’s not a squid! Squidward is an octopus. His head, eyes, and tentacle count make him distinctively un-squidlike.
Creators have confirmed that he is indeed an octopus; it was just too much work to draw eight tentacles all of the time.
There are a couple of episodes where Mr. Tentacles can be seen with EIGHT tentacles, further confirming his species.
Octopusward does not have the same ring to it.
