Most Powerful Gods in Anime Ranked
10. Tiamat (Fate Babylonia)
First on our list is Tiamat, a Beast-class Servant in the Fate series.
She is based on Mesopotamian and Sumerian lore and is also known as the Goddess of Beginning and is the mother of other gods and the creator of the world of men.
In the beginning, she was full of love for her children. But after being betrayed and cast aside, her rage and resentment distilled her to only have extremely primitive instincts. Now, her only goal is to destroy humanity.
But just like how humans grow up and leave the nest, characters in Fate Babylonia had to team up to defeat her so the world could advance to the next stage. It was one epic fight!
9. Truth (Full Metal Alchemist Series)
Explaining the concept of Truth from the Full Alchemist series is not an easy task.
In a way, Truth is a god, the backbone of their reality, the embodiment of the universe, and the law that upholds their world. It is fair and just in its judgment, although it may seem harsh and cruel.
It represents the ultimate rule of the show’s world: fair trade. It only takes what should be paid for the transgression, which is getting the transgressor’s most valued thing for their actions.
When you arrive at your Gate of Truth, you better be prepared!
8. Lain (Serial Experiments Lain)
When you think about anime gods and goddesses, you probably immediately associate them with spiritual beliefs and folklore. But what if someone is a god due to technology?
Lain gets involved in the insane and mysterious concept of the Wired. This virtual realm connects all known human communications—from telegraph and telephone to internet networks.
Add in the Earth’s magnetic field, and the whole thing becomes a long-distance network where digital and reality start to mesh.
In the end, Lain becomes this omnipotent being that can connect and access at any point in time. She erases people’s memories of her and starts anew as the new tech goddess overlooking reality. Whew!
7. Saint Seiya Deities (Saint Seiya)
Although the gods in Saint Seiya are based on Greek and Nordic deities, like Athena, Hades, and Odin, they are more than just their myth counterparts.
Their physical form is just one of the ways they exist, and sometimes they’re really the embodiment of a concept. While some of their powers are related to natural phenomena like floods and storms, some gods have powerful domains over things like birth or the afterlife.
Some of them even direct and embody time and destiny!
6. Arceus (Pokemon Animated Series)
Considered the creator of the entire Pokemon universe, Arceus is often regarded as the Pokemon god by the fans.
In the Pokemon movie Arceus and the Jewel of Life, Arceus expressed his rage at Machina Town’s betrayal by attempting to destroy the entire world.
Sounds overkill, but good thing Ash and his friends went back in time to change the events of the present. Take that, Arceus!
5. Madoka Kaname (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
Madoka’s pure heart and eagerness to help others led her to become the most powerful entity in her universe.
She started as a timid girl who was torn on becoming a magical girl. Eventually, when it was revealed what kind of suffering magical girls go through (they turn into witches), Madoka realized that she could help them with her wish.
She became someone who would absorb all the girls’ grief, essentially rewriting the existence of witches.
4. Kaguya Otsutsuki (Naruto)
Way before Konoha and other ninja villages came to be, there existed the Otsutsuki Clan and the God Tree.
Kaguya was sent to Earth to tend to the planet’s God Tree and harvest its chakra-filled fruit for her superiors. But her attachment to humans led to a war where she had to eat the fruit herself to stop it.
But consuming the fruit, gaining chakra, and awakening her powers changed her. At first, the people worshipped her as a moon goddess, but eventually, she was called an oni. She became cruel to her people and fearful that her clan would come to take her powers away.
Corruption of power—a tale as old as time.
It is said that this isekai world’s origin started with a ‘will’. That ‘will’ eventually created the universe out of boredom.
But not wanting to spoil anything, it removed its omnipotence and became a being called Veldanava.
Veldanava has a dragon and human form. At one point, he decided to live with the humans he created, started a family, and shed some of his divinity. Unfortunately, he perished in an attack.
But how could the god of this universe die that easily? Some say he abandoned his creations due to disappointment. Some say his offspring is now the new god. Others believe he is now observing humanity from afar.
2. Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Haruhi might seem like just an oddball of a student at first, but her thirst for adventure to cure her boredom unknowingly led her to recruit a real alien, esper, and time traveler.
She’s oblivious to this, of course. Just like how she doesn’t know about her powers. Now, the club has to do everything to keep her entertained and not change or recreate the universe at the drop of a hat!
Those mood swings of hers are dangerous, alright.
1. Grand Zeno (Dragonball Series)
Our choice for the most powerful god in anime is the Omni-King and supreme ruler of the Multiverse—Grand Zeno!
No need for “who’s stronger than Goku” debates. Thanks to the introduction of this character in Dragonball Super, all Dragonball power-level arguments can be cleared with the fact that the most powerful being in all the universes is this little guy (and his future self).
To get a grasp of his power, he has destroyed six out of the 18 universes due to being in a sour mood. And with his future-self twin, they brought forth the destruction of a few planets due to a game.
The scariest thing about him is his indifference. If he gets inconvenienced, he doesn’t care if he destroys universes or planets!
