10. Sebas Tian (Overlord)
Sebas Tian is a unique butler, not just for his name but due to the manner of his creation as well.
He was created by Touch Me, who is one of the strongest warriors in the world of Yggdrasil, to serve him and the Great Tomb of Nazarick.
Like his creator, Sebas has a strong sense of justice. He doesn’t discriminate against humans but will fight against those with a despicable nature.
9. Walter Dornez (Hellsing)
The “Death God” butler is up next on our list!
Walter Dornez was the butler for Integra Hellsing. On top of being a servant, he creates weapons for the vampires in the house as well.
In his younger days, he showed a wilder streak, often showing his sadistic side when battling. But in his old age, he mellowed out and became a model butler.
He was pleasant and reserved, with dry humor that goes well with his prim and proper attitude. Unfortunately, there’s more to him than he lets on.
8. Gilbert Nightray (Pandora Hearts)
Gilbert was the personal valet of his childhood friend, Oz. He lost his memories when he was a kid and was then found by Oz’s uncle.
He cares for Oz a lot. When Oz fell in the Abyss and went missing for years, he tried different ways to bring him back.
Gilbert joined another family and even participated in a government research just so he could find a way to recover Oz.
Now that’s a loyal butler and friend!
7. Wilhelm van Astrea (Re:Zero)
Before becoming the butler of Crusch Karsten, Wilhelm had a very eventful life full of ups and downs.
Wilhelm was the Captain of the Royal Guard. His wife, also a capable fighter due to her Sword Saint, went on a fatal expedition. Wilhelm chased revenge all his life for his wife.
Shortly before the present-day story started, Wilhelm was finally able to avenge his wife, thanks to the help of Crusch. Unfortunately, his story and suffering are sadly far from over.
6. Subaru (Mayo Chiki)
Subaru Konoe has a secret – she’s a girl and a butler!
Not that there’s anything wrong with being a female butler. But for Subaru, she was challenged to keep it a secret to continue being a butler.
You see, her family has always served as butlers to the Suzutsuki family. But since she’s the only child in her family, she has to serve that role and hide the fact that she’s a girl!
5. Diablo (That Time I Reincarnated as a Slime)
How would you like to be a slime’s butler? For Diablo, a.k.a. Noir, that is a-okay!
Diablo is actually a Primordial Daemon. He was summoned by a great hero but was repelled with a magic mask when he tried to attack her.
Years later, he saw that the mask broke at the hands of Rimuru, concluding that this slime was an extraordinary being. He tried his best to get summoned by Rimuru.
When he finally did, he was given the name Diablo and ascended into a Daemon Lord. He’s extremely loyal to Rimuru and tries different methods to get close to him.
4. Canary (Hunter x Hunter)
Being a butler for an assassin family is tough! Not only do you have to guard their house against those who want to exact revenge on the family, but the family themselves can also be a handful!
Canary is an assistant butler for the Zoldyck family. They’re assassins, so she is usually assigned a post to defend them from enemies and trespassers.
While her job can get difficult, she doesn’t mind giving her loyalty to Killua. He was the only one who showed her kindness and offered her friendship.
Gon immediately saw her humanity while they were fighting. He knew Canary cared for Killua as well!
3. Hayate (Hayate the Combat Butler)
To describe Hayate’s life as full of weird luck is to put it gently. Anything that can go wrong goes wrong for him!
His family abandoned him due to debt, he was sold to the yakuza, and then got involved in a failed kidnapping.
But as a testament to his weird luck, the kidnapee thought Hayate was confessing to her! He inadvertently saved her from real kidnappers and got hired as her butler.
His days became full of butlering, combatting, and navigating his weird luck.
2. Watari (Death Note)
Do you remember that butler with L? While L is a brilliant man with a very sharp wit, it turns out that his butler is equally brilliant and amazingly supportive.
Behind L, Near, Mello, and all the other gifted kids from The Wammy’s House are Watari. At the start of the show, you see him act as L’s butler and handler, as well as the mediator between L and the police force.
Later, it is revealed that Watari is actually the founder of The Wammy’s House, an orphanage in England for highly gifted kids where L and the others came from.
He was a successful inventor and a skilled marksman. He used his earnings to start The Wammy’s House.
1. Sebastian (Black Butler)
And our top butler pick is none other than Sebastian from Kuroshitsuji or Black Butler!
When it comes to anime butlers, the first character in a lot of anime fans’ minds is Sebastian. At this point, he has become the quintessential anime butler.
He’s far from being a simple butler too. Sebastian’s past with Ciel Phantomhive, his master, is full of mysteries.
Behind Sebastian’s sly and playful smile hides the truth. He is actually a summoned demon with an ongoing contract with Ciel.
He assumes the butler role and forms to fit the look of serving a young earl.
