What Is Final Fantasy Eorzea Cafe?
Final Fantasy Eorzea Cafe is a themed cafe based on the ever-popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV.
The cafe is loosely based on an in-game location, the Carline Canopy. It’s a tavern found in the forest nation of Gridania, in the realm of Eorzea.
This cafe came to be due to the collaboration of Square Enix with Pasela Resorts. Pasela is known for its entertainment centers, karaoke, and other cafe collaborations.
There are actually two locations for the cafe – the Akihabara branch and the Osaka branch.
As a testament to its quality and how much fans love it, the cafe has been open since 2014.
Inside Final Fantasy Eorzea Cafe (Akihabara)
Excited to see what Eorzea Cafe has in store for you? Well, not so fast. First, you have to confirm your booking at the check-in counter.
You should have a confirmation email sent to you after booking. Let the staff at the counter know your booking info, like the name you used for your reservation.
Important Note: You will be asked to pay a table charge. The fee for the Akihabara cafe is 1000 Yen per person, which includes a drink of your choice and a job coaster. The Osaka branch’s fee is 500 Yen, with a job magnet and a job coaster freebie instead.
You’ll also be reminded of your time limit (two hours) and told the basic do’s and don’ts. Once that’s all settled, you’ll be guided to the real entrance to the cafe.
You will be greeted with a beautiful wooden door with Eorzea’s sign to its right. Stepping inside, you’ll see that although the size of the place is quite limited, they have used every inch to fit tables and decor in a comfortable and tasteful manner.
The Ambiance
Just like the Carline Canopy, the place is designed with lacquered wooden walls, tables, and chairs.
There’s even a faux stained glass window to mimic the architecture of the in-game tavern.
[Eorzea Cafe Stained Glass Window and Counters]At the center is a counter for solo diners. It’s filled with Moogles, TV screens showing FFXIV gameplay, and some Fat Cat plushies. Adorable!
Other parts of the cafe are designed with weapons, portraits, and character acrylic stands. There’s also an Odder Otter perched on a wall divider!
On one of the walls of the cafe is a portrait of Gridania’s kind-hearted leader, the Elder Seedseer Kan-E-Senna.
Quite befitting to have her presence grace the cafe, don’t you think?
Overall, the ambiance of the place is stellar! Looking at the decor and trinkets all around is already a feast for the eyes.
And with the game’s OST serenading diners in the background, it’s quite a feast for the ears as well.
The Food
Speaking of feast, let’s move on to the meat of the article (heh) – the main course of the experience if you will. Seeing as this is a cafe, food is a very important aspect of the overall experience.
I am happy to report Eorzea Cafe definitely delivers on the food front.
As soon as you’re seated, you will be given a menu and a tablet to order from. For English speakers, worry not – there is an English menu! Drinks and food arrive fairly quickly after ordering.
For drinks, my partner and I ordered the Shadowbringers drink and the Reaper drink, which are both sorta new.
They’re both quite fruity and refreshing, with the Shadowbringers one more on the yogurt-y side with a syrup that you squeeze into the drink.
Looking at the drinks menu, all of the drinks are quite creative, both in taste and presentation. Jobs and certain characters have their own special drinks. Some drinks are alcoholic, and some are not.
For food, we had the Giant Beaver Croquettes first. They were crunchy on the outside, moist and soft on the inside, and almost too cute to eat!
Up next is the Fat Cat Meat Bun. If the croquettes were cute, this would take the adorableness level up a notch. You’ll have fun squishing its face, for sure!
Lastly, we had a Moogle Cheese Hamburg with Radz-at-Han-inspired fried rice and The Bull Bowl of Ala Mhigo, which is a beef stew dish with a Rauhban wafer placed on top. The beef stew was definitely one of our favorites!
And for dessert, we ordered the tiramisu with Black Mage Ley Lines on top and a stick of choco Pocky on the side. The cream tasted so good, but it honestly didn’t taste like tiramisu at all.
You can check the rest of the menu here.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You get a random coaster per order! The coasters could be characters, summons, or artwork in the game. There’s also a raffle contest while dining.
The Goodies
Besides the cashier is an official goods corner filled with all sorts of merch of the game. Sadly, it was a bit bare when we went there, probably since it was nighttime already.
Still, it had some magnets, pouches, washi tapes, face masks, Fat Cat shoulder massage sticks, and even an Elpis Flower Light.
As mentioned, you get coasters for each order in the cafe. You can also bring home your paper placemat. There’s a laminating machine near the entrance of the Pasela building where you can laminate your paper placemat for a fee.
How to Reserve a Spot at Eorzea Cafe
Eorzea Cafe reservation is quite easy now for English-speaking tourists. Click the following link to go to the Akihabara reservation page and here for the Osaka branch.
You can book as far as one month ahead of your desired date. It’s recommended to book early to get seats, although Eorzea Cafe isn’t as hectic as other themed cafes.
On the reservation page, input the number of people going with you, the date, and the time. A calendar should open up, showing you available time slots.
You’ll then type in your name, phone number, and email address. You don’t need a Japanese number or address – you can use your own mobile number. After all that, you should get a confirmation email.
How To Get There
Akihabara Eorzea Cafe is on the second floor of the Pasela Resorts Akiba Multi-Entertainment Building, 1-1-10, Sotokanda, Chiyoda, Tokyo Prefecture.
On the JR Yamanote, Sobu, Chuo, or Keihin-Tohoku line, go out from the Electric Town exit of Akihabara Station. The Pasela building should be a few minutes walk from there.
Check the official site for more info.
Is Final Fantasy Eorzea Cafe Worth the Visit?
The answer’s a big yes, especially for fans of the game. The decor, overall ambiance, and food presentation are definitely worth it to experience.
And even though the cafe has been open for years, there is still something new to look forward to because of seasonal events and menu.
Space might be a problem due to the small tables, but there is an option to book a private section. Taste-wise, the food was great – not mind-blowingly amazing, but the taste definitely surprised us.
And getting lots of freebies is always great. Now your drinks at home will never go coaster-less!
