Making a good looking base in Minecraft is all about balancing visual aesthetics with resource accessibility.
There’s no point in trying to make a base out of diamond on survival. Not only would that look horrible, but you’re not going to have enough diamonds to work with.
What you do have enough of to work with, though, is stone. It’s everywhere, so naturally, it would make a great foundational block to build a home off of.
Cobblestone sort of sucks, though. Thankfully, you can turn that cracked and nasty looking texture back into how it looks before you mine it, and then further into a block that actually looks usable.
Smooth stone is a massive part of my base building procedure, and it should be a part of yours, too.
To help you with incorporating this block into your game plan, I’ve got to teach you how to make it.
How Do I Get Smooth Stone in Minecraft?
First things first, you need to get your materials. You only need three things to make smooth stone, and chances are you have them already. If you don’t, I really have to ask what you’re doing here.
To make smooth stone, you need:
- Cobblestone
- Coal
- A furnace
I hope I don’t have to teach you how to get your hands on any of these supplies, but let’s go over it quickly in case you need a refresher.
To get some cobblestone, dig down until you get past dirt and start hitting the grey looking block. Mine this with any sort of pickaxe.
To get coal, you either wander around a mine, a cave, a ravine, or even just on the surface until you see a stone block with bits of black in it. You mind this with a stone pickaxe or better.
To build a furnace, you take a crafting table and fill the outside of the 3×3 with cobblestone. Just leave the center empty.
Making Smooth Stone in Minecraft
With that done, you’re ready to start smelting.
Throw your coal into the bottom slot in your furnace. Your cobblestone goes in the top. Go and grab a drink from the fridge while you wait for the stone to smelt.
When you come back, the cobblestone is going to be turned into stone. This is the same texture as stone before you mine it, but not what we’re looking for.
Simply put, this fresh stone back in the furnace, and it’s going to output smooth stone.
That’s it! That’s all you need to do to make a smooth stone in Minecraft.
