How To Make a Potion of Weakness in Minecraft [2024]

The potion of weakness is an old school item in Minecraft that has found new use recently. While it used to be used almost exclusively in PvP game modes, the recent updates have brought about a level of difficulty not seen since the Wither was introduced.

You need to be ready to take any and every advantage that you can get. The potion of weakness is a part of that.

1. Gather Your Materials

Before you start crafting, you’re going to have to give your item room a bit of plunder.

If you haven’t got yourself a potion room yet, do that. If you’re on a new world and already know how to do that, you can skip down a few paragraphs.

You need a brewing stand and a 4×4 infinite water source. You can have cauldrons and some Redstone tech for style points if you want.

An infinite water source is made by digging a 4×4 one block deep in the ground and putting water in two opposite corners. Hopefully, you already know that.

For a potion stand, head to a crafting bench and put three cobblestones along the bottom row. In the middle, you need a blaze rod. If you don’t have one, find a Nether Fortress and kill some Blazes.

With your potion kit ready, you need your potion of weakness materials. You’re going to need:

Blaze powder (this comes from the blaze rods you should have gathered)
A bottle of water (fill a glass bottle up with water)
A fermented spider eye (a spider eye mixed with sugar and a mushroom)

2. Brew Your Poison

Throw your bottle of water into the bottom of your brewing stand.

From here, add your blaze powder into the side slot and the fermented spider eye into the top ingredient spot.

Go take a lunch break, and when you come back, you’ll have yourself a potion of weakness.

That’s all you need to know about making a potion of weakness in Minecraft.

However, unless you’re planning on giving yourself a disadvantage because you’re too much of an epic gamer, you’re going to weaponize your fresh bottle of death.

3. Turn Your Poison Into a Bomb

To make your potion of weakness usable, you need to turn it into a homemade explosive. This is done by adding gunpowder to the already made potion of weakness.

Once this is done, you can throw the potion like a witch. Without gunpowder, there is no way to get a mob, or a player any older than six, to actually drink the potion.

The Golden Apple

As a last little side note, you can add a golden apple to your splash potion to make a brew capable of curing zombie villagers. If your village has been massacred, this can potentially save it.
